A Note about insurance and couples therapy

Relationship Repair is an out of network provider with insurance companies. This means you pay in full for services on the day they are received. In couples counseling, the relationship is the client so we do NOT diagnose medical conditions.  We are addressing the relationship and provide the following diagnosis code: Z 63.0, problems in relationship with spouse or partner; not a medical or mental health condition.

Some insurances provide out of network reimbursement for Z codes and some do not. We will not use or change to a medical code for couples therapy.  We urge you to check with your insurance company ahead of time to see if they will reimburse a "Z-code" with an out of network provider, if this helps you to make a sound financial decision around obtaining therapy.

Rates and Codes

First session (90791), 90 minutes, $275

Follow up session (90847), 90 minutes, $275

Follow up session (90847) 60 minutes, $205

Below is an excerpt from our Fees and insurance agreement which addresses diagnosis in couples counseling:

Relationship Repair is not in network with insurance. Our fees are an out of pocket expense.

'‘Marriage, couple, premarital, and relationship counseling are non-medical services, meaning that our approach does not fit into the parameters required by insurance companies.  For example, insurance requires that one partner be diagnosed with a mental health disorder and that there be an identified "client"; and that all treatment must be geared toward that identified client's disorder.   This is adverse to the ethics of our profession and training.  Couples therapy is non-pathologizing, the therapist is objective, and no one partner is responsible for the problems in the relationship. The couple is the "client". '
